Tara had always known that if Damon and Laurence ever pulled their heads out, they’d be friends. The two sat together now, discussing Mandori’s latest move.

She sat behind Damon next to the window, at a small table she’d taken over in his office. As long as she stayed away from Laurence, the dragon was okay.

The new sensari were arriving daily. As predicted, they were obnoxious and entitled. They had one more day before the infection hit the local papers, but Morgan had called a company-wide meeting to inform GenRealms employees.

“I’m having trouble with our police force too,” Laurence said.

“What’s happening?” Damon sat at his desk opposite Laurence.

“The human police don’t want to get involved, and the sensari won’t go against their own, especially now that Mandori has its clutches in Vega. They know that if the sensari take over, they’ll be in a shit storm with their own people. I think most want to be loyal to Vega, but they have to cover their asses.”

“That's understandable,” Tara looked up from her laptop.

“Yeah, it is,” Laurence said. “And it’s left me with very little ability to maintain order. I don’t know how you did it, Damon.”

“It was always a balancing act, but I had human support, and the sensari were out of the picture. This is a dangerous situation.”
